Pershore Jazz Club – Amy Roberts / Richard Exall Quintet

The Quintet features two of the most exciting and versatile musicians on the jazz scene today. With inspiration drawn from the all-time heroes of reed players, Amy and Richard perform well crafted arrangements that pay homage to them. In 2011, award winning Amy became the first female musician to join the Chris Barber Band and spent four years with them. In 2017 exciting engagements included playing at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam and in Antwerp with the incredible Matthew Herbert Big Band.

She has toured with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Matthew Herbert’s Brexit Big Band, London Swing Orchestra, Pete Long’s Echoes of Ellington, Keith Nichols Blue Devils Orchestra, Sticky Wicket Orchestra, The New Squadronaires, Memphis Belle Orchestra and Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra.

Composer, arranger and fine reed player, Richard has enjoyed a long history in music having formed his own jazz quartet and big band while still at college and for many years had his feet in both the jazz and classical camps. Richard has worked with most of the established big bands, such as The Chris Barber Band (for 10 years), The Glenn Miller Orchestra (UK), The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Ross Mitchell Band and Singers, The Memphis Belle Orchestra, the London Swing Orchestra and The Nelson Riddle Orchestra (UK).

The Quintet have recorded two albums….. “Why Not” and “Hodge-stic”.
