‘An enchanting evening of songs, monologues, and jokes.’ Hector Gilchrist. You might know Matthew from his popular music hall shows, or his comedy duo with Paul Hutchinson The Folk Detectives, or from the acclaimed 2017 revival of The Transports, where The Guardian called him ‘A compelling storyteller’ (5 stars).

For this special solo show, expect a sparkling mix of folk song, popular classics, and spoken word. The emphasis is on entertainment, though be warned – there may be tears among the laughs.

‘Crampton has a great voice that entices and explains. He pulls the audience in like a magical toyshop owner.’ Folk Phenomena.

Matthew worked widely with the late Paul Sartin and is a regular conspirator with The Young’uns. He’s examined the mechanics of singalong with his show Have a Banana!, given voice to past migrants in his show and book Human Cargo, and performs nationwide as a storyteller. But his abiding love is for the great chorus songs of the music hall. Expect to enjoy many such treats here at The Fleece Inn.
