More than 10,000 people are estimated to have flocked to Evesham at the weekend to savour the taste of the town’s first food festival.

The two-day event on Crown Meadow featured more than 60 stalls selling a wide variety of food and drink and proved popular with the public.

Visitors enjoyed tucking into food from a range of international cuisines, while also sampling locally produced cheese, cake, pickles and more. There was live music and entertainment to enjoy in the sunshine, including face painting, a fun fair and balloon modelling.

There were appearances from some familiar faces, including Gus the Asparagus Man and the world’s only Asparamancer, Jemima Packington, and an asparagus-eating competition. Bonkers Activities treated guests to their new ‘River Dragons’ pedalos and Flavours put on a limited-edition asparagus and raspberry flavoured ice cream which sold out instantly!

Blue Strawberry Events, the company behind the popular Droitwich Spa Food & Drink Festival, organised the festival with support from the Vale of Evesham Commerce and Tourism Association (VECTA) and Wychavon District Council.

Following this success, thoughts are already turning to next year’s event, which promises to be even bigger and better.

Cllr Richard Morris, Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: “It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves at Evesham’s first food festival, which did a brilliant job of celebrating the local area and produce. I can’t wait to see how we build on it next year.

“In the meantime, anyone looking to enjoy more great local produce should head to the Droitwich Spa Food & Drink Festival on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June in Lido Park.”
